Love Actually opening scene analysis

Love Actually opening scene analysis
The clip starts off with slow music which connects with a wedding. This makes the audience think of love and relationships and also tells them that it's a romantic film. All through the opening scene Hugh grant is talking about the different types of relationships such as mother and daughter, father and son, boyfriend and girlfriend and between friends. This also gives the audience a clue that the film is about love. All through the clip there are many close ups of different people in the airport which shows the different emotions they are feeling at that moment in time as they may have not seen a family member in a long time or someones partner could be returning home. Most of the emotions shown are happy as it is the Christmas holidays. In certain parts of the clip the audience could relate to as they may of gone through an similar experience. Mise-en-scene is used in this opening scene as the setting is in an airport. The pace of editing is slow as it lets the audience see what is happening in each part so they may feel like they can relate to a certain situation. We don't learn anything about the story or any of the characters during the opening as Hugh Grant is talking about love and relationships all through the scene. The opening scene conforms to the stereotypes as it mentions about love and relationships which is what the film is going to be about.

Ride Along 2 opening scene analysis

Ride Along 2 opening scene analysis
Ride along 2 is a action film. I know this because there are car chases, gun shots and all the cars are fast and look expensive which are stereotypes of a action film. The film is targeted at a male audience  between the ages of 15-29 as men enjoy watching action films as there are car chases involved. Throughout the clip hip hop music (non-diejetic) is being played which gives the film an urban theme to it and the hip hop music also increases at intense scenes to create tension. At the beginning of the film two police officers are shown and you can tell they have a close relationship later on in the scene as they helped each other out. There are two main camera shots used during the opening scene which are a medium shot which shows the characters movements and gestures. At the end of the clip there is a close up of the two main characters one of them being Kevin Hart to show that they are important. Mise-en-scene is used during this opening scene. The setting is the car park. Props used are the cars and the guns. We don't find out much abut the characters apart from that one of the main characters is a detective. We find out some of the story which is the characters are trying to catch a gang of drug dealers. It conforms to the stereotypes as it includes a car chase which are fast and look expensive and guns are used. The pace of editing is is fast when the car chase is happening as the camera is showing the main characters then switching to the gang which shows the audience what is happening from both point of views.

28 weeks later open scene analysis

28 weeks later open scene analysis
The scene starts of with Don the main character running with one of the zombies following him. Then you hear his wife Alice shout "Don" and there is a close up of her face which shows her emotions which are disappointed, scared and upset because she never thought her husband would leave. This makes the audience wonder why Don would leave his wife and not try to save her and where is he thinking of heading to next. Afterwards there is a close up of Don's face which shows he feels guilty of leaving his wife in the house full of zombies. After that scene a high angle shot is taken of Don opening one of the boarded up windows so that he can escape. This shows part of the setting that he is in which is dark and empty as they don't want the zombies to know they are inside the house. When Don has climbed out of the window he fulls to the ground which cuts to a long shot of Don getting up from the floor and at the same time a group of zombies running past at a fast pace. At this point the audience is wondering if Don is going to survive or if the zombies are going to spot him. This shows the audience more of the setting and makes them wonder what the zombies look like up close. Thirty six seconds in a medium shot is taken of Alice shouting "Don" through a long window in the house even though he is unable to hear her. This keeps the audience thinking is she going to die or survive. There is another close up of her face saying his name again and you can hear the worry in her voice. After that it cuts to a long shot of Alice getting pulled away and all that is left is the dark window which leaves the audience wondering what happened to her. A birds eye view comes into place which shows the setting of the scene which is a large field and you can see Don running in the distance. It then cuts to a close up of Don's face and in the background you can see a hoard of zombies chasing after him which keeps the audience wondering if he is going to survive. Finally Don he reached the dock which has a boat. There are a few moments when the camera cuts to a close up of the zombies face when they are trying to drag Don out of the boat. This shows the audience a better view of what the zombies look like. Mise en scene is used in this open scene as there are two setting in the house and at the river. The prop used is the boat which Don uses to escape.

The Woman in black opening scene

The Woman in black opening scene

The opening scene to 'The woman in black' starts off with creepy music playing quietly in the background while tea is being poured from a teapot which creates a tense feeling for the audience as they're not sure what is going to happen next. Afterwards a close up is shown of three old dolls which shows a closer look of what they look like. A medium shot is shown of the three girls having a tea party. The room that the little girls are in is dull looking and has no colour to it which makes the audience think about where they are and why. After the girls have finished playing with their dolls they look up making the audience think something or someone is standing there. About five seconds later all three girls turn their heads towards the window and slowly stand up. When the girls have stood up they drop their tea cups and one of the girls breaks the teapot with her foot and another steps on one of the dolls making its head fall off this keeps the audiences attention as the sweet little girls have turned into evil little girls which is one of the conventions in a horror film. Eventually the girls have got to the window and climb a step that leads to the edge. All at once the girls open one window each and jump out. When the girls have disappeared you hear a loud pitched scream which you think is the mother of the three children which says "my babies". The camera then begins to zoom out and in the corner of the room the woman in black is standing there which makes the audience think that she is the cause of the girls jumping out of the window. Throughout the whole opening of the film the creepy music is playing (non-diegetic) which is keeping the audience watching and sets the film of to a creepy start. Mise-en-scene is used in the opening as the setting is in the bedroom of someones house, the teapot and teacups and the dolls are used as props. During the opening you don't find out much about the characters as there is no speech but the audience knows that the woman in black is one of the main characters. We don't find out anything about the story but the audience can imagine what the story may be based on. The representation of the opening scene conforms to the stereotypes as the setting is creepy, children seem sweet but soon turn evil and there is a demonic presence in the film.

My influences and interests

My influences and interests
My favorite film is The Notebook because i enjoy watching romantic films, i have never watched a film that had a story line starting from the couple when they first met and until they died which made me cry throughout the whole film. My favorite director is Nick Cassavetes because he directed my favorite film The Notebook. I enjoy watching horror films the most out of all the genres of films because they always have a different story line and a lot are based on true events which interests me more. A film that i am looking forward to seeing in the cinema is Ouija: origin of evil because my genre of film is horror and i have watched a lot of them. The last film that i watched was ' The Purge; Election Year'. I watched this film because i have seen the other two and i couldn't wait for the third one to come out. I enjoyed the film because i have never seen a film that has the same or similar story to the purge and there is a lot that goes on throughout the film that makes you want to continue watching.
