The sound used during the opening scene is effective because at the beginning of the film a string instrument is used when the producers and actors names are shown and blood is on the screen which relates to the horror genre as blood is a stereotypical conventions to use in a horror film. When the credits are being shown creepy music is being played (non- diegetic) and becomes louder as the film continues which begins to get the audience excited for the film. Throughout the office scene there is background noises (diegetic) like people talking in the background. This is effective is it makes the scene seem realistic to the audience. At 2:48 there is a sudden burst of screaming and a instrument in the background and then the words 'THE CABIN IN THE WOODS' come on the screen in big red letters. The scream continues for a while while the shot is still. Straight afterwards the scene changes to the neighbourhood where quite chill music is being played in the background (non-diegetic). The music becomes louder as the camera fades into the bedroom of one of the characters. As the character starts to speak the music stops.

The Cabin in the woods opening scene analysis
A the start of the film the 180 degree angle is used to when two men are getting coffee. This is effective as it shows both characters point of view. When the men leave the room after getting their coffee the camera shot changes to a long shot. This is effective as it shows all of the surroundings in that area. At this point in the film the audience may not be interested as nothing about the story line has been told and your not sure who the main characters are. After this scene the camera cuts to the men walking down the corridor. It then cuts back to a long shot of the office and a comes up to the men and joins the conversation. The camera angle used here is effective as it shows all three characters from the same angle so that the audience can see everything that goes on. After this the camera cuts back and fourth from the office and back to the three characters talking. At 2:15 there is a long shot of a room which contains a few vehicles that look like golf carts which is effective as this keeps the audience interested in the film as they want to find out more of the story. After the two men finish their conversation the camera cuts to a new setting, which is located in a neighbourhood. This is effective as the audience are still wondering what is happening and if they are going to see the two men from the first scene again as the settings are complete opposites.
