Evaluation Activity 4

The target audience for our film are from the age 15-25. We have decided on this age group as most horror films are rated a 15 and at certain points in our film there are scenes of violence and a strong threat that is suitable for this age group and not for anyone younger. Also this age group is more interested in suspense and enjoy the horror genre more than the younger age groups.  During this time in their lives they are learning about the world and finding out new things and are experiencing different emotions and feelings. They want to seek in anything thrilling and scary which gets them excited easily which is why we have targeted this age group as we know that having suspense and violence in our film will get the audience excited to find out more. If a younger audience watched this they may be put off as they get scared quicker than our target audience.

Apart from the age of our target audience we also had to think about if we were going to target males, females or both genders. Even though both genders enjoy watching horror films most of the time it is boys who watch horror films containing a lot of gore and violence. This is because boys seek the thrill of violence, and gore and where violence is an convention of a horror film they enjoy them even more. On the other hand research shows girls enjoy watching horror films the most.

In horror films the story line is never based on just one person but usually a group of people especially friends who are teenagers. Which is why groups of friends watch horror films together as they may think and talk about what they would do in the situation that the people in the film are and who would be which character. As well as groups watching horror films it is also popular for couples on their first date or even if they have been together a while. This is because if one of them gets scared during or after the film the other is there to comfort them.
